Myself and my other half are hoping to crew casually on Saturdays. We are fit, reliable and eager to learn. We currently own a Farr 6000 which we have sailed throughout the Great Sandy Strait and Moreton Bay, however, due to work commitments we are unable to sail it during the year. We would like further our sailing knowledge and skills, as we hope to one day own a larger yacht.

    Please contact Trent

I am looking for any yacht skippers who are seeking crew in January 2015 (and maybe Feb) for passages from Gold Coast area (to anywhere but heading south would be preferable).
I am RYA Yachtmaster with about 10, 000 miles skippering miles including skippering and navigating offshore at night (cross channel from UK to France numerous times).
Also hold 1st Aid, ISAF Offshore and Survival at Sea certifications. Also plenty of inshore/offshore racing experience (45-55 footers)
I run sailing trips myself in the UK and Med (not for profit – just with friends) but have moved back to Australia for now.

Please forward my email to anyone in the club who is looking for an experience person to help crew/helm/whatever in the new year.

  24. Hi Drew,
Thank you for your posting. In accordance with this years Sailing Calendar, we actually have a total of 64 Days and 83 races scheduled for the Offshore Division of Southport Yacht Club. These are made up of the following:
    BOSUN’S LOCKER Series:

GiLL- Cook Island Yacht Race =1 Day / 1 Race
O’KEEFE FINANCIAL PLANNING- Ted Elkes Memorial Race =1 Day / 1 Race
SEABREEZE INDUSTRIES – Julian Rocks Yacht Race =1 Day / 1 Race
XXXX Sail Paradise Regatta (FR, Sat & Sun) 3 Days / 8 Races =3 Days / 8 Races
SOCIAL SAILING Junior Cadet Passage Race =1 Day / 1 Race

    Wild Oats Winter Twilight – 14 Days & 14 Races =14 Days / 14 Races
ORD MINNETT Annual Charity Yacht Regatta. =1 Day / 1 Race
Therefore the total is actually 64 Days and 83 Races just for the Offshore Division..
We have structured this years Racing Calendar so as to also allow for our Offshore Divisional Yachts to compete in the following other planned events as well in order to maximise their time on the Ocean. These are:
    Hamilton Island Race Week
    St Helena Cup
Beneteau Cup & French Yacht Challenge
    Goodwill Cup
    Surf to City Yacht Race
Sydney to Gold Coast Yacht Race
    Brisbane to Keppel Yacht Race

There may also be the opportunity for the Offshore Division to compete in the 8 Days & 24 races scheduled for the Etchells & Sportsboat Championships which are held on Saturdays Offshore also.
I would suggest you contact your Sailing Committee Representative, Mr Tony Horkings to discuss so as if there is enough interest by the Offshore Division it may be put forward to the SYC Sailing Committee and SYC Management Team for approval.
As you can see Drew a lot of effort has been put into this year’s Sailing Calendar for the Offshore Division (Yet alone the other remaining 4 Sailing Divisions of the Club) by the Sailing Committee & the Management Team and I am extremely proud of being the Sailing Administrator for our wonderful Yacht Club in hosting all of these Events.
Should you wish to discuss any of these Events, please do not hesitate to contact me on 0400 55 8917.
Once again, thank you Drew for your input.

I am currently available anytime to go for a trial or day sail so please give me a call on 0415 398 014 for a chat. Cheers Alex

What a great idea – especially for someone like me who is new to these waters.
In regards to the new pontoon at Dux can someone give me some dimensions or specifics about using it as we do not have a dingy.
    Thanks Gary
