Simon Turpin

Qualifying as Royal Yachting Australia Senior Instructor and Coach, Simon set his foundations for a career in the sport of sailing. He has a keen interest in the commercial and administrative sides of sailing and has furthered his education along the way.

Simon has worked previously in a number of large Resorts & Hotels throughout Queensland in a variety of roles, employing and overseeing 100 plus staff. His final role in the Hospitality Industry was as the Managing Director of a 4.5 Star International Hotel in the heart of Brisbane City where he transformed the property over a 5 year period. With the passion for corporation development, he then moved onto creating his own business in the Real Estate Industry, owning and running a family owned Real Estate Agency which he then franchised with multiple offices on the Gold Coast.

With the love of sailing, Simon volunteered his spare time at Southport Yacht Club’s (SYC) Sailing Squadron, and two years ago stepped into the role as Sailing Administrator, running and coordinating Club racing as well as Club Regattas.

Simon has recently taken on the role of SYC’s Sailing Operations Manager, a role that encompasses a many and varied portfolio. These include: organising and overseeing of all SYC on water activities; member liaison; coordination of the training programs; maintenance of the sailing calendar; sail record management; audit and monitoring of the sail growth at SYC; office administration & management and liaising with all Committee’s. Simon is very much a people person, who loves interacting with people and does so with empathy, patience and understanding. He values and respects the people he works with and the Members he interacts with. Simon has excellent analytical skills with a common sense approach and ingenuity to real world practices.

Simon can easily adapt to a variety of differing roles & responsibilities and will always lead by example and give his personal best to exceed expectations.

When not at work, Simon enjoys sailing, competitive racing of both Monohull and Multihull Yachts and spending time with his family and friends.
