Robert Okx okxrobert@gmail.com I've bought a heavy 50ft ketch but have little experience. I'm looking for a skipper to come out with me (maybe a few weeks) for a test voyage to show me the "ropes". Someone with big boat / blue water experience who doesnt mind passing on their skills to a newbie would be ideal. Food and fuel paid for. Tim Shaw aged 47 years, fit and well. Recently moved to Coomera Waters, Gold Coast from North Yorkshire in the UK. Have modest experience dinghy sailing, owned my own dinghy (RS Feva XL) for 4 years, and have crewed twice on keel boats. Most of my racing was in the Solent (UK), the Channel and into the Irish Sea: 2 seasons (every weekend during the season) on a Kerr 11.3 mainly as Pit incl. Fastnet 2003, Kerr UK-Nationals, Hamble Winter Series, Warsash Spring Series & Cork Week; Inshore racing and coaching weekends on a Mumm 30 (Mediterranean & Solent) as Pit and Bow; several Cowes Weeks as Bow or Pit on various boats (X-362 Sport, Swan etc); 1 season on a Swan 43 as Bow (during off-shores also Main and Helm) incl. Fastnet 2009 & Swan Europeans. Also some dinghy and cruising experience. I have the RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper incl. Maritime Radio Operator Cerificate of Competence (Short Range Cerificate by RYA & MCA) as well as the RYA First Aid Course (2005) and the RYA/MCA Small Craft Basic Sea Survival (2003), in addition I hold the International Certificate for Operator of Pleasure Craft in all categories (coastal/inland, power/sail/up to 10m/above 10m). I have good skills in sailing dinghies (420 and Booxy) and have previous experience in sailing boat off the Eastern Coast of Europe (Netherland/ Belgian/ and French Coasts) for a total of two weeks. During these trips, I've been an active crew member participating in day and night shifts. I'm fit, healthy and tough enough to endure long shifts and hard weather/ conditions and have the right frame of mind to complete difficult and long journeys. As example of the above I am currently riding from Sydney to Cairns on bicycle. My final goal is to end up in south america. I have worked as professional crew for over 100 hours on the classic yachts Etesian and Aschanti, both over 100ft in length in the Mediterranean on the Rolex racing circuit. I have also raced river cruisers and stars on the Norfolk Broads in the UK for the last 7 years. I have helmed and crewed high performance dinghies on the national racing circuit since the age of 14. As an RYA qualified Dinghy Instructor I have taught adults and children to sail since 2006, including a recent 2 month contract teaching for Sunsail in Greece in September.
