Golf Club Booking Form

SYC Social Golf - Next Game at Gainsborough Greens Golf Club on April 6th, 2009.

Welcome to autumn – cool breezes and soft sunshine – and more golf!  A new course for us – at Gainsborough Greens – please read the blurb below.

The SYC Golf Club has to pay $62.50 per player ($67.50 if you count the cost of prizes) but we will be subsidising this figure to $55 per person (out of our competition kitty), which includes carts for all and cooked lunch – sounds like a fantastic deal.  Numbers are limited to 24 players only, so get in quick for a great day’s golf.

Registration at 8.00 am for 8.30 hit-off as usual.

All SYC Members (ladies & gents - any category) and guests welcome.

Play is Stableford.  An official handicap is not required.

Golf days are normally the 1st Monday of each month

Starting time is 8:30AM Queensland time with registration at 8:00AM.

Normal cost is $40 which includes a sandwich and one drink (see the newsletter above for changes to this fee and other requirements for attending these social golf days).

Prizes are presented for Best and Runner-up scores, best first and second nines, best lady (min. 3 ladies playing), Nearest to the Pin on front and back nines and the Worst score.

Calendar year SYC Golf Club membership fee is $20. Includes End of Year Party and Presentation Night in December.

Golf Captain
And we have a new Golf Captain, Paul Hepher, who has taken over the reins from Peter Rau.  Paul is working on the Golf Courses for this year, most of which are now booked – see list below.

We thank Peter Rau for the excellent job he has done as Captain during the past two years but Peter has to ease back on his activities since his recent heart surgery.

Annual Membership Fee

The SYC Social Golf Club Annual Membership fee for 2009 will be $20, which will include the Christmas Commodore’s Trophy Presentation Function for the player only.
An additional charge will apply for spouses, partners and friends to attend the Christmas function (to be advised later in the year).

Regular and Non-Regular Players
The following players are regarded as Regular players (as they played more than eight times last year) – we assume they will play each month (so they do not need to confirm), unless we hear from them by email to the contrary:   Ralph Brading, Andy Corry, Norma Ewen, Clive Foster, Paul Hepher, Phil Kellond-Knight, Gunter Loicht, Don Nowlan, Bert Sherring, Don Stead, Terry Stephenson.
All other players need to advise by email (or phone Tony Bailey on 5537 5686 and leave a message) that they will be playing.  Tony Bailey will send out an email reminder approximately 14 days before each event.
We have established a limit of 24 players on any day (to get players back into the clubhouse for lunch), so we do not wish to disappoint late subscribers.  Visitors are still welcome but names and numbers should be advised at least ten days prior to play.
54 Point Modified Stableford Scoring System
We will be playing a modified form of Stableford scoring to better establish handicaps.  The following format is one used by a number of social groups as a fair way to handicap social golfers.   How it works:
All players ignore the hole Difficulty rating (index) given to each hole.  All players score the following points per hole:

Double Bogey   (Par + 2 shots)             1 Point
Bogey              (Par + 1 shot)               2 Points
Par                   (Par)                            3 Points
Birdie              (Par -1 shot)                 4 Points
Eagle               ( Par -2 shots)             5 points

The player’s final score is achieved by adding the player’s handicap to their “points score” and if they have played to their handicap the score should add up to 54.
Shots are added to, or subtracted from, the handicap for each two shots over, or under, the 54 benchmark.

For Example  - an 18 handicap player gets a shot per hole and if he/she plays to the handicap, they should get a bogey on each hole.
18 x 2 points = 36 + the handicap of 18 = 54

The Maximum handicap is obviously 54 and applies equally to men and women (that’s equality for you!!).
