Approach

Approach from the south, east or north is clear of offshore dangers except those close aboard the land immediately south-east of Point Danger. From all directions, the mass of high rise building clustered in the Surfers Paradise area will be seen from at least 20 miles. A second smaller cluster of buildings is situated to the north, north-west of the Gold Coast Seaway. They provide valuable reference to the latter.

GOLD COAST SEAWAY can be contacted on VHF Channel 73 and 27.91 MHz. The Seaway entrance can be dangerous in rough weather. Enter against an ebb tide only in light weather. Having entered the Seaway, dredged channel branch north and south offering minimum depths of around 4.5 metres.

Turn south for Southport Yacht Club. Within the Broadwater all buoys and beacons are lit for night navigation and are placed red to port and green to starboard when approaching the Southport Boat Harbour from the entrance. Confusion is not uncommon even in daylight, so cautious progress is suggested until orientated.
